Carey was a fashion model. She's 5'10" tall and was very sought-after by the famous American fashion designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc. In 1979 the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists voted her dad Scientist of The Year. Carey's father was a geologist and traveled across the globe as part of his professional career. While in college she started modeling part-time and attracted the attention from Ford model Agency representatives in New York. She briefly spent time and studied in Paris before returning in New York. Her modeling and college career took off and she appeared on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's and a variety of other magazines' covers. While modeling, she also attended New York University full-time to get a literature degree. In time, she began to become interested in acting and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986, she made her debut on stage with a small role in "Club Paradise" alongside Robin Williams. Skiing, white water rafting and rock climbing are among her favorite pursuits.
